I’m so pleased and surprised to announce that Professor Taelstrum has been invited back to the Grand Canadian Steampunk Exposition 2015. Last year, I took the good Professor persona on the road and had a grand time. The crowds were small, but enthusiastic. I’m looking forward to bringing a whole new set of stories to the Tea Tent on the Sunday of the Exposition!
I also super-excited to see that Professor Elemental will be performing as well as Abney Park. I discovered both acts last year and became a huge fan of both.
On an unexpectedly snowy evening in March, I managed to pull together two fantastic musicians to join me for an evening of music and stories to promote my new CD Did You Hear That? We had a small, but enthusiastic crowd at the West End Well in Ottawa and had a lovely night.
My heartfelt thanks go to Jason Sonier and Ursa Meyer for forming the Taelstrum band and lending their musical talents that night. The stories went well, the music was perfect, and I sold many CDs! I need to book another show there… it was magical.
This past weekend, I was lucky enough to be invited to perform at the Grand Canadian Steampunk Exposition at Niagara-on-the-Lake (Ontario). I took this opportunity to debut my new Steampunk persona of Professor Taelstrum: Truth Teller and it was a huge hit! I managed to stay in persona most of the weekend, hob-nobbing with Professor Elemental, Abney Park, and Steam-Powered Giraffe, among many other talented entertainers.
The audiences were very receptive and generous, but my favorite show was in the Four and Twenty Blackbirds Tea Shop. It was cozy, intimate tea tent that could fit about 30 people and it was a full house for the show. I invited people to pick the stories from the Bandoleer of Legends, which made for great audience participation (although I’ll admit it was pretty nerve-wracking for me!).
I hope to bring Professor Taelstrum to more heritage and steampunk events in the future!
Irish storyteller Mike Burns has been telling stories at Hurley’s Irish pub for almost 20 years on the last Sunday of each month. Normally, he would be performing on February 24th, but he’s away performing in another part of the world. I’m quite honoured to be asked to tell tales in his stead.
We’ll be having special guests including Marie-Claire Saindon on fiddle and Shayne Gryn on guitar.
